Road Closure 14th July to 6th August 2026

UPDATE ON ROAD CLOSURES BETWEEN TRINAFOUR & CALVINE
FROM PKC ROADS & BRIDGES DEPT

Works are currently programmed at three separate locations along the B847 between Trinafour and Calvine up until August 6.

Access will be maintained up to each work location from either direction, with only the immediate section of road at the active work site being closed.

The road closure will be in place between 09:30 and 15:30 each day, with the road reopening outside of these hours. The three advertised closures reflect the programmed works at the separate locations along the route rather than a continuous closure of the full length of the B847.

The works at Tomcraggach Culvert are currently scheduled to be completed on Monday, and the road will be open as normal this weekend. Following completion of these works, the contractor is scheduled to move on to Blairfettie Culvert, with works due to commence on Tuesday 21 July, in accordance with the agreed programme. Calvine will be the final section.

Rannoch Clearway Proposal Update

Following a well-attended Rannoch Community Council (RCC) meeting in May, significant concerns were raised about Perth and Kinross Council’s (PKC) proposal to introduce a Rural Clearway between Killichonan and Rannoch Lodge.

Residents highlighted concerns including the lack of evidence of road blockage issues, the risk of parking problems being displaced elsewhere, access to properties, and the need for a wider, joined-up approach to issues around Loch Rannoch, including parking, passing places, and unsuitable vehicle-based camping.

As a result of community feedback and 14 formal objections, PKC Roads has asked that the proposal’s originators consider pausing or cancelling it. Should it continue, the proposal will be considered by the Environment and Infrastructure Committee in August at the earliest before any further progress is made.

Rannoch Community Council has proposed to PKC that, instead of the current clearway proposal, a wider Rannoch Visitor Management Strategy be developed in partnership with them and other stakeholders.

RCC has invited Loch Rannoch Conservation Association, Rannoch & Tummel Tourist Association, Rannoch Community Trust, Forestry Land Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue and PKC to join a meeting in the next weeks to start developing an outline plan. This would look at practical short- and long-term solutions, including targeted parking measures, additional passing places, off-road parking, increased patrols, and managed camping areas where appropriate.

RCC has also contacted neighbouring National Parks and local Community Councils to learn from their experience.

A further update will be provided at the next Community Council meeting on Tuesday 21 July, 7:30pm, Kinloch Rannoch Village Hall.
